Havasupai

Welcome to the land of the "people of the blue-green waters", a remote area near the Grand Canyon to which there are no roads. The Havasupai canyon is accessible only via hiking - or helicopter - and access is restricted to a limited number of permit holders each day.  Yifei Nof is lucky to have obtained permit access for these dates. We will hike into the canyon and then spend 2 days hiking to and exploring a number of the gorgeous and well-known waterfalls in the region, such as Mooney Falls and Havasu Falls.  This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to visit this beautiful canyon with like-minded frum women!

Day 1

Day 2

Days 3 and 4

Day 5

Arrive into the LAS airport by noon, so that we can make our way to the gear rental shop and pick up any rented gear for those who do not have their own. We will pick up a hot meal in Las Vegas before heading for Peach Springs, AZ, which is the closest city to the Havasupai trailhead. We will obtain our permits and get ready for the long day ahead of us.

We will make sure to get an early start and head for Hualapai Hilltop parking lot, our point of entry to the trail. Today's trek is 10 miles from the parking lot to the campground, and it's all downhill from here - literally - with a loss of 2,500 feet. We will make good use of our hiking poles, and in spite of the heavy backpacks we'll be carrying, we will appreciate the mules alongside us, which allow us to offset at least a bit of our weight.

We will spend Tuesday and Wednesday taking shorter day hikes to a few of the spectacular blue-green waterfalls for which Havasupai is known. Those who wish will trek to Mooney Falls (slick, steep, chain section), Havasu Falls, Fifty Foot Falls and Beaver Falls. If we choose, we can hike an additional 10 miles to the confluence of the streams of the Colorado river. We will sleep well in our tents, within the canyons and beneath the stars.

On this final day we will pack up camp and depart bright and early. Today's agenda is 10 miles of hiking... uphill and out of the canyon. It will be tough, but we are tougher.  Once back at our vans, we'll head back to Las Vegas for a hot meal (and maybe a shower, if we're running on time!) before departing for the airport, reflecting back on this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!
