Machu Picchu

Visit Machu Picchu, the site of ancient Inca ruins deep in the Andes Mountains. But this experience is not just about the archeology... on this trek you follow the trail built by the Incas, and you experience a range of gorgeous scenery, rugged mountain passes, archeological sites and incredible camaraderie.

This trip is open to a limited number of very active women; spots are likely to go quickly, and permits for Machu Picchu run out fast.

We will be working with a vetted guiding company that will take care of all the logistics for us; from setting up campsites, hauling our extra luggage, and providing on-trail support and guidance.  Kosher meals and snacks will be provided throughout the entire trip. Meals will be a combination of fresh, hot meals, MRE's, and packaged snacks. There will be ample fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as daily coffee and tea.

Please note that flights to and from Cusco are limited. We will be recommending specific flights to ensure that we can travel safely and in a timely fashion.  Flights may be available only from a few major airports such as JFK and MIA.

Friday and Shabbos

Day 2

Day 3

Day 4

Your  trip officially begins at noon on Friday with an enjoyable lunch. You will note the very high altitude, and so we have planned a relaxing day to help you ease in.  After eating lunch, you will meet our guides at their office for a briefing on our exciting trek and you will also receive a duffel bag to pack for your porter to carry.  Then it's time to get ready for a Peruvian Shabbos! We will be eating our shabbos meals at the Cusco chabad, and after a relaxing shabbos morning, we will take a relaxing walking tour of Cusco.

You will wake up before dawn for a shuttle ride to Ollantaytambo where you will have breakfast and meet your porters and guides. Then we go to mile 82 where we begin the Inca Trail. We will hike around 8 miles today, until we get to our campsite for dinner and a well-deserved rest!

This is going to be the hardest day of your trek!  With nearly 10 miles of hiking, and crossing the highest point of the trek at 13,829 feet - Dead Woman's Pass - you will definitely feel the strenuous today! But you will also marvel at tall waterfalls, Andean mountainscapes, magnificent Inca sites, and a hopefully pristine night sky. Your hot dinner has never tasted this good!

You've done the hardest part, now just enjoy this gorgeous day as you trek towards the Cloud Forest. With 6 miles of hiking over gradual inclines and declines, you will see more ruins, Salkantay Mountain and Machu Picchu Mountain. You will have ample time this afternoon to rest your weary feet and have an early night, with plans for an early morning tomorrow.

Day 5

We plan to wake up bright and early so that we can reach the Sun Gate and see sunrise over Machu Picchu! You will be given a 2 hour guided tour of the ruins, and those who wish to do so can hike the steep stairs of Huaynapicchu for a beautiful view overlooking the ruins. We will then begin our journey back to Cusco, with a train and bus ride.  You will arrive in Cusco with enough time to catch a hot dinner and then an evening flight out if you wish.

Others may prefer to stay another day, and we will add on an optional full-day trip if there is ample interest.
