Trip Overview

On this trip we fly into and out from the Las Vegas airport which offers easy access to Valley of Fire in Nevada, while also being only a short drive away from Death Valley National Park in California. Death Valley and Valley of Fire are both spectacular parks that would be impossible to visit during much of the year due to dangerous heat, however this time of year you'll get to experience the gorgeous rock formations and landscapes in temperate weather.  You'll hike up sand dunes, walk on salt flats at the lowest spot in the US, and go through a slot canyon. You will enjoy a boating trip as well as a visit to the famous Hoover Dam.  Take advantage of this designated "gold tier dark sky park" with some evening stargazing. On our NOFIM version of this Deserts trip, you will visit these iconic parks together with a like-minded group of active women 55+. You will not believe the adventures and scenery that awaits you just a few hours out of Las Vegas.

Day 4

After meeting our bus in Las Vegas at noon, you will head straight to the Mount Charleston for some hiking and views. Enjoy a picnic dinner before heading to our hotel in Pahrump, NV.

Today you'll spend the entire day in Death Valley National Park.  Death Valley is superlative; the driest, largest, and hottest national park in the US. You will visit Badwater Basin, the lowest point in North America, and walk over the pristine white salt flats. Take some time to walk (or roll!) down the sand dunes at Mesquite Flats. Marvel at the Ubehebe Crater and hike Golden Canyon before visiting Zabriskie Point for sunset and stargazing.

Today you'll head back towards Las Vegas to visit the famous Hoover Dam. After a tour of the massive dam, you will head for a boating adventure where you'll get to experience the dam from down below... a whole new perspective! After the boat ride you will take a beautiful hike through some historic railroad tunnels and have a picnic dinner before finally heading back to our hotel.

On the final morning you head to Valley of Fire, a spectacular state park known for it's deep red rocks, unusual formations and gorgeous colors.  You will hike to see native American petroglyph carvings, swirling multi-hued rocks, and sweeping vistas. End off your trip with a delicous meal before heading back to the Las Vegas airport.
