Experience active volcanos, rain forest, and a whole new culture! On this trip you will be based in Antigua, Guatemala's "old city" with cobblestone streets and surrounded by volcanoes, with two nights spent at Lake Atitlan. In addition to hiking and sightseeing, you will go horseback riding, learn salsa dancing, take a boat to different villages, visit plantations , and roast marshmallows over an active volcano!
Food is extremely limited on this trip as we are in a foreign country. We will be working with Chabad of Antigua and Chabad of San Pedro to provide meals. Due to limited access to specific hechsherim and dietary requirements, flexibility will be essential on this trip.

Meet up at the GUA airport, and then travel as a group to the old cobblestoned city of Antigua. Start with a light brunch and then head to a Macadamia Nut Plantation to learn how they are grown and used in local products. In the afternoon/evening you will visit Hobbitenango and step into a whimsical fantasy world where you can explore charming earth-roofed houses and enjoy panoramic volcano views. The mountaintop eco-park also offers fun activities like a giant hand and swing, as well as other picturesque spots. Then you will return to Chabad for a hearty dinner before turning in for the evening.
Start the first full day with a horseback ride up to the Pacaya Volcano. At the top you will hike over a lava field and enjoy the unique opportunity to roast marshmallows over the hot volcanic vents before heading down the mountain. You will spend the afternoon in the town of Antigua, exploring the culture and shopping. You also have the option to add-on a jade jewelry workshop where you will carve your own piece of jewelry from raw jade. The evening will end with dinner and a salsa dancing class!
You will have some free time in town followed by a traditional Guatemalan breakfast. Afterwards you will head to a coffee plantation tour where you'll experience the process of making coffee from the initial planting of the small seedlings all the way through the roasting and grinding process. In the afternoon you will head towards Lake Atitlan, culminating with a boat ride across the lake to San Pedro.
Get an early start to the day with a sunrise hike to the top of Indian Nose featuring breakfast on top of the mountain. After you come down, you will head for a walking cultural tour of San Pedro and San Juan where you will visit a women's weaving cooperative, paint with coffee, ride a tuktuk, and more. Enjoy a final evening in San Pedro.
Start your final day with a morning at the lake where you can shop, go kayaking, or make a piece of beaded jewelry. After you pack up, you will take boat ride back across the water towards Panajachel for an visit to the nature reserve where you can see butterflies, monkeys, and ride a cable bike through the rain forest if you wish. Then head back for a final evening in Antigua and a goodbye dinner before heading to the airport.
